You can find plenty of decorative rain harvesting tanks on the market. However, if you want to save even more money, you can try the DIY cheap rain barrel method.
You can buy basic materials that essentially do the same thing as one designed as a planter or landscape rock. However, if you plan in hiding it out of sight, the extra style won’t matter.
How to Make Your Own Cheap Rain Barrels:
The video below explains how to build your own cheap rain barrel.
The materials include a plastic barrel that costs $20 and fittings that cost about $6. You can’t get much cheaper than that!
You may be able to place your rainwater harvesting tank directly underneath a gutter downspout. However, in some cases, you may need a downspout diverter.
You can purchase these kits for cheap rain barrels separately, and they are easy to connect.
As the video below shows, the water spigot comes out near the bottom of the tank. For this reason, be sure to have cinder blocks or a platform on which to set your water tank. Therefore, you will have room to connect a hose to the spigot.
